JR KYUSHU

The biggest railway company in Kyushu island operates the most part of the lines, dividing the branches into three types: the Shinkansen line, the main lines, and the local lines. Each one is explained individually.

The Shinkansen route inside Kyushu runs along 257 kilometers between Hakata station (Hakata ward, Fukuoka city =1,500,000 people) and Kagoshima Chuo station (Kagoshima city = 625,000 people), stopping at some big cities as Tosu, Kumamoto, Yatsushiro, Sendai... in its trip. The operation is make by three types of service: the Mizuho trains (semi-direct trains between Shin-Osaka and Kagoshima), the Sakura trains (trains between Shin-Osaka or Hakata and Kagoshima which stop at some stations), and the Tsubame trains (trains exclusiely running into Kyushu island, between Hakata and Kagoshima Chûô stations, stopping at all stations). From Hakata to Honshu island, Shinkansen stops at Kokura station; this part is operated by JR West, like the short Hakata Minami branch.

SECONDARY LINES

HISATSU LINE TIMETABLE PART 1

The Hisatsu Line is one of the oldest railways of Kyûshû island. The first part comprises the sections between Yatsushiro (140,000 people) and Hitoyoshi (40,000 people), and from Hitoyoshi to Yoshimatsu (Aira district, 15,000 people.) Both parts were built in 1908 and 1910, respectively, with a total length of 87 km in south, inside the island. Between Hitoyoshi and Okoba stations, and between Yatake and Masaki stations there are switchbacks (because of mountainous relief). Best railway views are located between the switchbacks.

HISATSU LINE TIMETABLE PART 2

The second part is more older than the first: it was built in 1903. This section runs between Yoshimatsu (Aira district, 15,000 people) and Hayato (Kirishima city = 140,000 people). Because of its antiquity, the Kareigawa station building is the oldest train edification conserved in all Japan. Line runs along 37 kilometer inside Kagoshima prefecture.
